Blu-ray Review: Duck Dynasty (Season 5)

Blu-ray Reviews, Reviews

If there was ever an antidote to the disease that infests television in the Kardashian clan, the Robertsons might be the cure. Rich and famous for having done something, as opposed to merely associating with people who’ve done things of note (and the “famous for being famous” stupidity that comes with it), Duck Dynasty has found impressive ratings on cable television and plenty of controversy as well. Most recently Phil Robertson got into trouble after a feature length interview, where he discussed his feelings on a number of controversial topics, left the family in a curious position.

They don’t particularly need Duck Dynasty, as they’re profoundly wealthy from their Duck Commander line of products. It’s just a vehicle for them to enjoy a measure of fame, cash in with a variety of products, and works as an advertisement for their company that they’d have to spend an exorbitant amount of money to get otherwise. Thus comes season 5 and more wacky adventures with the Robertson clan.

Right now the show has found a fairly comfortable groove. They don’t give you any insights into the Robertson clan, nothing true or interesting about running a massive company while being celebrities or event he several controversies that have emerged from being a family of faith that’s been told to tone it down for the sake of the show. This is just a series of wacky shenanigans, nothing more, as the family doesn’t give you any insight into who they are or the fact that they’ve become celebrities and tastemakers because of the show. It’s just hillbilly wackiness, nothing more.

A couple deleted scenes and a number of mildly interesting EPK pieces are included.
