December drug test failure didn’t interfere with UFC 182 fight…
Despite a successful Light Heavyweight Title defense at UFC 182, UFC superstar Jon Jones is headed to drug treatment.
Jones was given a random drug test on December 4, 2014. He tested positive for benzoylecgonine, the main metabolite in cocaine. Because the Nevada Comission follows the World Anti-Doping Agency code, cocaine is not actually banned during out-of-competition timing. Thus there was nothing the commission could do to sanction or punish Jones in time for the UFC 182 show.
In a follow-up later in December, Jones passed for all drugs including benzoylecgonine.
Jones released an official statement via Yahoo Sports:
With the support of my family, I have entered into a drug treatment facility. I want to apologize to my fiancée, my children, as well as my mother, father, and brothers for the mistake that I made. I also want to apologize to the UFC, my coaches, my sponsors and equally important to my fans. I am taking this treatment program very seriously. Therefore, at this time my family and I would appreciate privacy.
UFC has no official comment as of yet.
The head of the commission, Francisco Aguilar, was quoted as saying:
I am pleased that Mr. Jones is addressing this issue and seeking help for his problem
