Justice League #1 DC Comics Rebirth spoilers and review follow.
An alien threat begins to take over humanity. They are powerful as they can drain the power rings of Green Lanterns.
They are The Kindred and threaten Wonder Woman and…
…steal The Flash’s speed?
Batman confronts a crashed alien ship or entity and their alien locust / parasites?!
Aquaman is swarmed by his Atlantean subjects, while…
…Wonder Woman is swarmed as well, but…
…she stands tall to end Justice League #1 of the DC Rebirth era striking a pose boasting about her friends… the Justice League!
But where is Superman? Well earlier in the issue, Superman is fighting threats, but we don’t get his POV, but we do learn what he’s up to as Cyborg briefs Batman.
Have you heard about The Kindred before? Well, they were humanoid aliens that tackled with Wildstorm’s Grifter and Backlash in the 1990’s. However, these Kindred don’t look like the old school ones; so this may the Kindred in name only?
So…
Overall a well drawn issue by Tony Daniel, but like Justice League Rebirth #1 (spoilers here), a hollow story by artist-turned-writer Bryan Hitch.
My comments from the Justice League Rebirth #1 remain for Justice League #1 of the Rebirth era:
- I’m not a fan of big mysterious alien threats, particularly the big brain kind, but the issue did set up the new ongoing twice monthly shipping Justice League…
I’m skeptical of Bryan Hitch, mostly known for being an artist, as the writer of the new ongoing twice monthly shipping Justice League series, but I am pleased that reliable artists Tony Daniel and Jesus Merino will be the platooning artists so that the book won’t be delayed like Bryan Hicth’s New 52 / DC You JLA series was when he was both writer and artist.
The Justice League Rebirth #1 issue also sets up the first Justice League arc called the Extinction Machine…
Artist Tony Daniel is the real plus for the issue, but I hope writer Bryan Hitch turns this ship around for the flagship DC Comics Rebirth super-team.
