The Secret History Of The Challenger Revealed Plus Is Fantastic Four Human Torch Dead?!

We open with the usuall storyline catch-up page plus creative team credits…

…followed by the dramtis personae.

It appears that the Grandmaster and…

…the Challenger are playing a high-stakes games with Earth as its gameboard.

Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four, aka the Human Torch, touched one of the pyramid shaped cosmic pieces – called a pyramoid – and appears to die, but…

…while the Avengers mourn him he, and others who touched the same type of pieces, are just off the gameboard in stasis seemingly still alive.

Back on the Grandmaster’s Cosmic Games Room we learn why the Earth is the right gameboard…

…it is the Avengers World that have overcome the Phoenix, Thanos and Infinity Guantlet and even Galactus.

We then learn who the Challenger is. He was the FIRST Grandmaster?!

The Challenger is an Elder too and a brother to the current Grandmaster.

(BTW, can someone name all the Elders for me? Thanks in advance.)

Turns out the current Grandmaster coveted that name and…

When existed ended and restarted, presumably at the end of the more recent Secret Wars, he was freed and has returned.

The Challenger believes he is winning their current contest whose stakes…

…do not appear clear… yet.

As, presumably, an Incredible Hulk ‘d Bruce Banner readies for his return!
