Quite a few new series coming out this week!

  • Impossible Inc #1 – I am a huge fan of JM DeMatteis, so I am definitely curious about his news series from IDW: “Join 17-year-old Number Horowitz as she and her team board a cosmic train called the Non-Local Express, riding across the quantum sea and into the Infinite Spiral that leads to other worlds, new dimensions, parallel universes and through time itself. Impossible, Incorporated is the tale of a teenage girl with extraordinary abilities, seeking the truth about the universe—and her own mysterious past!”
  • Dick Tracy: Dead or Alive #1 – A while back we got an announcement that Archie was going to be doing a modern day update of Dick Track. There turned out to be a rights issue, so that series never happened. Instead, we are getting a relaunch of Dick Track by Lee and Mike Allred from IDW! So as much as I would have loved to see how the Archie series worked out, hard to complain about what we are getting instead!
  • Burnouts #1 – This is such a WTF that I have to buy it! “To save their friends and families, a group of high school teenagers must fight off an attack on their town by a secret alien invasion… but they can only see the aliens if they’re completely wasted. The Burnouts are saving the world one puff at a time!” Sounds crazy, but certainly different which is always a good thing to me.
  • Infinity Wars Soldier Supreme #1 – While it’s hard not to look at Marvel’s Infinity Warps and think “Amalgam rehash,” I have to admit I still really want to read these comics! We need more fun stuff like this in comics. This is a mashup of Captain America and Doctor Strange (Stephen Rogers).
  • Patience Conviction Revenge #1 – This Aftershock book has a very odd title. It’s supposed to be a crime comedy involving supervillains. I tend to check out everything new from Aftershock, but I don’t have any expectations (good or bad) for this one.
  • Return of Wolverine #1 – So we have had a lot of build up here. Wolvie popping up in a bunch of random books, Hunt for Wolverine which was 18 books, and now Return of Wolverine THE SERIES! Look, I will always love Logan, but I was real happy to see Laura as Wolverine. Bad enough Marvel dropped that unceremoniously, but if they need to bring Wolvie back, they really could have done it a bit quicker and less punishing on the readers’ pockets…
  • Batman #55 – Batman has been SOOOOO good since the wedding issue. We’ve gotten a ton of insight into how Batman deals with his hurt feelings. Last issue with Dick Grayson was one of the best comics to come out this year! This is the Tom King Batman book I’ve been hoping for!
  • West Coast Avengers #2 – The first issue of this series was just ecstatically weird. Flying killer sharks! A giant Tigra gone wild! This was just a real fun comic, and exactly what I was hoping for from WCA!
