Wonder Woman 1984 Film Bumps Six Billion Dollar Man Movie Off Of Warner Bros. 2020 Schedule.

THR reports:

‘Wonder Woman 1984’ Moves Back 7 Months to Summer 2020

Warner Bros. also announced that ‘Six Billion Dollar Man’ is being taken off the release calendar for now.
The next Wonder Woman movie has relocated to a new date.

Wonder Woman 1984 will now open June 5, 2020, the same corridor in which the first movie debuted in 2017. The sequel previously was set to open Nov. 1, 2019. Star Gal Gadot tweeted the news Monday.

“We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer, so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did,” Warners president of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein said in a statement moments after Gadot tweeted. “This move lands the film exactly where it belongs.”

The sequel reunites Gadot with Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins and co-star Chris Pine, with Pedro Pascal and Kristen Wiig joining the franchise in the follow-up. Wonder Woman, groundbreaking in featuring a female superhero, grossed more than $412 million in North America and $821.8 million globally.

In a twinned move, Warner Bros. also announced that it is taking Six Billion Dollar Man off its release calendar for now. The pic had been set to open on the date now occupied by Wonder Woman 1984. Mark Wahlberg is attached to star in the long-awaited film adaptation of the classic TV show, although Warners — which picked up the project from the now-defunct Weinstein Co. — has yet to announce a director.

Relocating Wonder Woman 1984 means that it won’t open mere weeks after Warners launches Todd Phillips’ supervillain pic Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix, on Oct. 4, 2019.

In its new date, Jenkins’ sequel has the June 5-7, 2020, weekend to itself, so far at least. A week later, Universal’s action-thriller Red Notice, starring Dwayne Johnson, is set to unfurl on June 12, 2020. Last week, Disney moved Johnson’s Jungle Cruise from October 2019 to July 24, 2020, and it remains to be seen whether Red Notice stays where it is.
