Linda Blair Is Sarah T: Portrait Of A Teenage Alcoholic On Blu-ray In January

Disc Announcements, News

What happens when The Exorcist, Star Wars Superman and Dallas unite to get drunk? You get Sarah T: Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic. Back in 1975, this made-for-TV movie captivated America about the trouble of kids hitting the bottle. Linda Blair was riding high from her Oscar nominated performance as the possessed girl in The Exorcist and the out of control teenager in the hit TV movie Born Innocent. This time she was showing how an underaged kid can use and abuse beer and liquor to deal with her life. While this was a TV movie, it is filled with names that belong on a big theatrical release. First off Blair’s boyfriend is a pre-Luke Skywalker Mark Hamill (Big Red One). Her father is Larry Hagman from Dallas and I Dream of Jeannie. The supporting cast includes Verna Bloom (Hang ‘Em High), William Daniels (voice of K.I.T.T. on Knight Rider, Michael Lerner (Barton Fink & Godzilla) and M. Emmet Walsh (Bladerunner. The script was from the folks that brought us Dynasty. The film was directed by Richard Donner who helmed Goonies and Lethal Weapon. You’ll want to tune in to see this troubled teen trauma. Unlike your crummy TV with rabbit ears in the ’70s, you can see the film with big screen clarity as Shout! Factory brings Sarah T to Blu-ray. Here’s the press release with bonus features from Shout! Factory

Sarah Travis (Linda Blair) is an average teenager who is introduced to drinking alcohol at local parties. As a means of coping with problems in her life, most notably her parents’ divorce, Sarah starts to drink regularly and tries to keep her addiction a secret, even from her boyfriend (Mark Hamill). Eventually, Sarah’s increasingly severe drinking almost leads to tragedy, and she enters Alcoholics Anonymous, beginning an ongoing struggle to get sober and stay that way.

An all-star cast give heartrending performances in this riveting movie that’ll take you through the highs and lows of a girl battling her relentless addiction. Teenage drinkers like Sarah are often alcoholics at 12 and 13 and some even sooner. They’re raiding their parents liquor cabinets and bribing older friends to buy it for them. Sarah T. – Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic takes both a shocking and compassionate look at one girl’s story as she falls through the cracks and makes her way to rock bottom. Blair and Mark Hamill are terrific in this hard-hitting television film.
