Mike Wallace was a bulldog of an interviewer during his time on 60 Minutes. It didn’t matter if he was talking with a shady mechanic or the leader of a country, he rarely backed down in his questions. He was not happy to “just have access” to his subject. Mike Wallace Is Here goes deep into Mike’s career from the early days of television pitching products to being one of the most feared reporters to arrive on a doorstep. When I saw Mike Wallace Is Here at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, what stuck out was even though the film was made of vintage clips from the CBS vaults, it really asked questions about Wallace’s role in television journalism. What was also eye opening was getting to see both cameras in a split screen to see Mike and his subject at once. If you’re a fan of 60 Minutes, this film is essential viewing. Magnolia Home Entertainment releases the film on DVD on October 29th. This might influence your Halloween costume choice. Here’s the press release from Magnolia Home Entertainment:

Synopsis
Mike Wallace is Here offers an unflinching look at the legendary reporter, who interrogated the 20th century’s biggest figures in his over fifty years on air, and his aggressive reporting style and showmanship that redefined what America came to expect from broadcasters. Unearthing decades of never-before-seen footage from the 60 Minutes vault, the film explores what drove and plagued Wallace, whose storied career was entwined with the evolution of journalism itself.
