Stealth First Team-Up With Batman?

A Secret About Those Superman World’s Finest Time-Ups!

A story set before the current series kicked off 12 issues and 19 months ago in December 2018.

Shazam easily dispatches a Crocodile-Man while friend and ally Freddy Freeman mocks him for having a weak rogues gallery.

That, naturally, prompts Shazam to head to Gotham City to try his hand with a more serious Batman rogue.

An over-condfident Shazam feels he’ll make short work of the first villain he finds, but…

…the Scarecrow infects him with his fear toxin!

Batman joins the fray and is infected himself!

In the fear toxin haze, Shazam learns from Batman…

…to use the fear and…

…they breakout of its effects and take down the Scarecrow!

The book ends with a heart-to-heart that reveals that…

…Billy Batson, the child alter ego of Shazam, just wants to do good and help.

And, Billy is pretty stoked about his first team-up with Batman who says its not a team-up and…

…Batman reveals that Superman team-up with him not the other way around.

The Pulse:

An amazing interlude issue. Great characterization and action from writer Jeff Loveness, breathtaking art by Brandon Peterson, vibrant colors by Mike Atiyeh with playful and fitting lettering by the legendary Rob Leigh. The Batman and Shazam exchanges, particularly Batman’s advice at the end to Billy Batson, were heart-strings pulling. 9.5 out of 10.
