This looks like the biggest week I’ve had since before the lockdown. I guess comics are back in full force!

  • Lonely Receiver #1 – I’m at the point where I’ll grab anything Zac Thompson writes, so I’m down for this new Aftershock book. I didn’t even read the solicitation for it, so I hope it’s good!
  • Spy Island #1 – I’ve liked Chelsea Cain’s Mockingbird and Man-Eater series, so I’m more than willing to give Spy Island a chance. I think this will be the first Dark Horse comic I’ve bought since the lockdown too…
  • We Only Find Them When They’re Dead #1 – Al Ewing has been on fire at Marvel for a few years now, and I’m excited to see what he can do on a book without editorial interference or shared-universe responsibilities.
  • I’m also looking forward to new issues of Ascender, Bang, Cable, Die, Empyre, Fire Power, Guardians of the Galaxy, Lost Soldiers, Miles Morales: Spider-Man, New Mutants, Sacred Six, Sex Criminals: Sexual Gary, Shadow Roads, Strange Adventures, Vampirella, and Wolverine.
  • I’m on the fence about the new AWA/Upshot book Grendel, Kentucky. I don’t know the writer, but the artist is Tommy Lee Edwards, so I’ll probably end up getting it. I’m telling myself I need to flip through it first, but I know that Edwards’s art will seal the deal.

3-4 books this week, please.

  • Batman #98
  • Justice League #52
  • Shazam #14
  • Young Justice #18

Not sure I’ll pick up Justice League. If it leads to next issue’s Doom Metal arc I may pick it up.

  • Hellblazer Rise And Fall #1 – For some reason, I just have never been able to get into Constantine other than a few appearances here and there. No idea why, he’s a character that should fall right in my wheelhouse. Hoping that Tom Taylor can finally give me the Hellblazer comic I have always wanted to read.
  • Empyre #6 – Definitely one of my favorite comic crossover stories in a long time. Marvel ended up not overdoing it on this one…which was likely more because of COVID-19 than any real plan when it came to this. A lot of the crossover books never happened, which made for a much better story. Hopefully Marvel and DC can learn from this and keep future crossovers tight and well contains.
  • Young Justice #18 – I hate that this book was cancelled. I thought it was a terrific version of these characters. Hopefully Bendis gets to finish telling the story, and hopefully we will get to keep the pre-Flashpoint versions of Impulse and Superboy. It does seem like DC is moving more in that direction. Impulse even showed up in Flash last week and had a brief reunion with Max Mercury.
  • Orville Season 2.5 #1 (Of 4)(Launch Day Part 1 Of 2)
  • DCeased Dead Planet #3 (Of 7)
  • Justice League #52
  • Shazam #14
  • Strange Adventures #5 (Of 12)
  • Nancy Drew And The Hardy Boys The Death Of Nancy Drew #4
  • Sonic The Hedgehog #31
  • Usagi Yojimbo Color Classics #7 (Of 7)
  • Fire Power By Kirkman And Samnee #3
  • Black Widow #1
  • Fantastic Four #23
  • Miles Morales Spider-Man #18
  • New Mutants #12
  • Ravencroft #4 (Of 5)
  • Wolverine #5
