Spoilers, Top Story

DC Comics Universe and Dark Nights: Death Metal: Trinity Crisis #1 Spoilers and Review follows.

Robin King and…

…Superboy-Prime Vs….

Batman, Superman and WW…

…Over Crisis On Infinite Earths…

Final Crisis and…

…Infinite Crisis?!

This is a pretty cool issue that…

…is not a series of short stories like an earlier one-shots for Death Metal.

We open with an explanation, of sorts, of DC Comics 1985-1986’s Crisis on Infinite Earth as well as…

…the 2005-2006 Infinite Crisis and 2008’s Final Crisis.

It appears the Batman Who Laughs, now the Doctor Manhattan powered Dark Knight, has created three Crisis worlds to harness the crisis energy of them to fuel Perpetua who is key for this new altered reality to continue.

The plan is for Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman to go each crisis world and “win” their respective crisis to put an end to Perpeutua’s power and begin to write the future of DC Comics new multiverse that comes out of Dark Nights: Death Metal event.

The trinity begins their journey, run into many more of the dark multiverse’s bat-related villains before Harley Quinn and Jarro save them and move them along their journey to the crisis worlds.

They then find a trapped Barbatos, the big bad of DC Comics’ 2017-2018 Dark Nights: Metal who has been trapped by his one-time champion the Batman Who Laughs aka the Dark Knight now.

Barbatos demystifies the role of crises at DC being signs of failure, but Superman wants to hear none of it.

Harley Quinn, Jarro, Swamp Thing and zombie Jonah Hex have been separated from the trinity and are attacked by the Robin King…

…who “kills” Hex as the rest of the team escape for they can be a tether to pull the trinity out of their crisis worlds after they presumably “win”.

Looks like a different crisis world draw a different super-hero to it.

Batman to the Crisis on Infinite Earths world…

…Superman to the Final Crisis world and…

…Wonder Woman to…

…the Infinite Crisis world…

…where comes face-t-face with Superboy-Prime who seems aware of the other crisis worlds?!

This story seems to continue in Dark Nights: Death Metal #4…

…in stores on October 13 / 24, 2020.

The Pulse:

A frenetic issue with that worlds-building and often multiple-re-read-requiring storyline by writer Scott Snyder with amazing art by Francis Manapul and team. An entertaining issue. 8.5 out of 10.
