DC Comics and Batman / Catwoman #1 Spoilers and Review follows.
Alfred Pennyworth Is Alive…
…Joker Has Jarring Appearances Today and Tomorrow…
…As The Phantasm Emerges!
There are even more variant covers, roughly thirty plus, to this book here.
The book moves between future and present as…
…Andrea Beaumont returns to Gotham City and Alfred Pennyworth lives despite writer Tom King killing him in his lead-in Batman series run depriving the core DC line of the character.
Turns out Beaumont’s son has run away or been kidnapped and…
…Batman / Catwoman plan to help.
We then have an ill-fitting and ill-feeling Catwoman / Joker interlude in the present and…
…the future.
The book ends with Beaumont’s son found dead, presumably, having been Joker venomed.
Beaumont then digs up the Mask of the Phantasm costume from a relative’s grave as…
…Christmas comes to Gotham City.
The Pulse:
A trippy and jarring issue with solid art. Not sure what to make of this continuation of writer Tom King’s main line Batman run concluding in DC’s generally alternate reality DC Black Label imprint. Great to see Andrea Beaumont and Phantasm make their comics debut. 6 out of 10.
