More Pride Celebrations In Marvel Comics and DC Comics’ June 2021 Solicitations Spoilers!

Marvel’s Pride Month Celebration Continues with New Covers by Phil Jimenez

America Chavez, Iceman, Northstar and Daken star in the first set of PRIDE MONTH VARIANT COVERS coming in June!

In addition to MARVEL’S VOICES: PRIDE #1, Marvel Comics will commemorate Pride Month this year with a new series of stunning variant covers by legendary artist Phil Jimenez! Spotlighting Marvel’s growing LGBTQ+ representation, Marvel’s PRIDE MONTH VARIANT COVERS will feature some of Marvel’s most popular LGBTQ+ heroes including Wiccan, Northstar, Mystique, and more. These stunning depictions will proudly adorn the covers of your favorite Marvel titles throughout the month of June. Check out the first four PRIDE MONTH variant covers right here!

“I’m always blown away at how different things are now in comics when it comes to LGBTQ+ representation than when I started, and Marvel’s dedication to that inclusion,” Jimenez said.

“As an (ahem!) older gay creator, I’m always thrilled by the opportunity to draw iconic LGBTQ+ characters from Marvel’s past and present, and grateful to contribute to Marvel’s future: one that truly represents the world — and the wonderful diversity of humanity — right outside your window.”

A total of nine covers, Phil Jimenez’s artwork will include the following LGBTQ+ characters:

  • America Chavez

  • Black Cat

  • Daken

  • Hulkling & Wiccan

  • Iceman

  • Moondragon

  • Mystique

  • Northstar

  • The new Valkyrie who made her debut in KING IN BLACK: RETURN OF THE VALKYRIES — learn her true name in THE MIGHTY VALKYRIES #1, on sale in April!

DC… announced DC Pride, an 80-page anthology comic featuring LGBTQIA+ characters from across the DC Universe, and Crush & Lobo, a new eight-issue miniseries written by Mariko Tamaki (This One Summer, Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass) with art by Amancay Nahuelpan (Nightwing, Wonder Woman)…

…DC will also release a series of Pride themed variant covers showcasing DC’s leading characters through the month of June, giving fans the opportunity to purchase comics featuring covers with Batman, Harley, Ivy, Superman, Wonder Woman, and more, all by cutting-edge comic book artists!

…DC will also publish GLAAD Media Award-nominated Suicide Squad: Bad Blood by Tom Taylor (Injustice: Gods Among Us) and Bruno Redondo (Nightwing) on April 27, DC’s gothic LGBTQIA+ romance Poison Ivy: Thorns by Kody Keplinger (The DUFF) and Sara Kipin on June 1, and Mariko Tamaki and Yoshi Yoshitani’s highly anticipated YA graphic novel, I Am Not Starfire, will publish on July 27 as part of the publisher’s overall Pride plans in 2021. Lois Lane by Greg Rucka and Mike Perkins, Far Sector by N.K. Jemisin and Jamal Campbell and You Brought Me The Ocean by Alex Sánchez and Julie Maroh have also been nominated for GLAAD Media Awards in 2021!
