In the aftermath of the Shadow War, Batman has returned to Gotham! But when he hears word of strange developments in Badhnisia, he’s forced to question…has Abyss returned? Or has a new hero been born in the dark?

And in the backup, Poison Ivy uncovers the troubling ramifications of the Gardener and Harley Quinn’s actions during Fear State in this prologue to Poison Ivy drawn by Dani and written by Poison Ivy series writer G. Willow Wilson.

The book opens with Abyss back in action!

Batman goes oversees to Badhnisia to track him down.

However, its now a she not a he; the police detective who had teamed with Batman during the Abyss arc.

Plus she is now a hero, not a villain, using the fear Abyss caused to help track down the kidnappers of her parents.

Unfortunately, her parents are deceased, but she was able to restrain herself from killing the perp.

Batman recruits her to Batman Incorporated and warns her that her greatest enemy may be herself a truism Batman learned about himself.

There’s also a back-up story involving Poison Ivy on a quest to regain her full powers.

The Gardener returns in it as Poison Ivy seemingly time travels or something in a story that continues in Poison Ivy’s own limited series.

The Pulse:

A satisfying end to the main story as the core creative team changes next issue. Intrigued by the new Batman Incorporated series. The back-up was ok. Nice to see the Gardener back, but this felt like a preview for Poison Ivy’s limited series as opposed to a back-up story. It won’t continue next issue, as other back-up’s have, but in another series entirely. 8 out of 10 on the strength of the main story.
