Spoilers and Review.
Justice League and Superman villain the Key and Batman arch-nemesis the Joker have Boy Thunder captive.
He’s being tortured to reveal the secret identities of Batman and Superman which he does not know.
This canonically happens before 1988’s Death in the Family where the Joker beat Batman’s second Robin Jason Todd to death based on readers calling in at the time to decide Todd’s fate.
So this storyline is canonically the macabre first time the Joker employed a crowbar against a kid sidekick.
It is also a storyline where we see Boy Thunder speak about his boyhood origins while the Key also reveals more about his past as well.
As the Key now knows that Boy Thunder is from an alternate Earth, seemingly Earth 22 which still exists in the post Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths infinite multiverse (Dark Crisis: Big Bang #1 spoilers here) of the new Dawn of DC era that kicked off this week (Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths #7 [of 7] spoilers here), he seems him as a key, pun intended it would seem, to the multiverse.
The Teen Titans along with Batman and Superman track down the Key and the Joker and demand they release Boy Thunder.
A bloodied and beaten, physically and emotionally, Boy Thunder lashed out and says that he’ll kill the Joker if he every sees him again whether soon or in twenty years.
The book ends with the revelation that Boy Thunder grows up into Magog.
Yes, it turns out Boy Thunder is David Reid aka Magog of 1996 Kingdom Come infamy and 2008 Justice Society of America notoriety.
