Remember AmnesiA on Blu-ray in April

What happens when a photographer and his twin brother share a deep secret? The truth resurfaces when the twins reunite when their mother has a medical issue. What will come out of them all be back in their hometown? This is at the core of the Dutch movie AmnesiA that was released in 2001. The movie is getting a deluxe Blu-ray by Cult Epics on April 11. The 2-disc Blu-ray also contains writer-director Martin Koolhoven’s TV movies Dark Light and Suzy Q. You’ll be watching a retrospective of his first three major projects. Internationally acclaimed Dutch director Martin Koolhoven’s remarkable debut feature film, AmnesiA, is being released on Blu-ray and DVD on April 11, 2023.

Koolhoven is known for directing Winter in Wartime (2008) and Brimstone (2016), which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was his first film in English.  

AmnesiA features an all-star Dutch cast including Golden Calf Best Actor winner Fedja van Huêt (Character, Speak No Evil), Carice van Houten (Black Book, Game of Thrones), and Theo Maasen (Black Book, Manslaughter). 

The story follows photographer Alex (Fedja van Huêt) as he receives word from his twin brother Aram (also van Huêt) that their mother (Sacha Bulthuis) is gravely ill and will not survive much longer. Alex returns home to AmnesiA, the family estate, to in some way ease the panic and dread that continues to plague him and his photography. As he confronts the past he left behind, his deep-rooted psychological turmoil is laid bare. AmnesiA is a surreal, highly stylized thriller you won’t soon forget.   

Cult Epics’ 2-disc Blu-ray Limited Edition and 1-disc DVD sets are newly restored in 4K from the original camera negative. Bonus materials include a new introduction by Koolhoven; an audio commentary by Koolhoven and Fedja van Huêt, moderated by Peter Verstraten; a newly filmed conversation between star Carice van Houten and Koolhoven, a 2001 making-of, a 2001 behind-the-scenes look with van Houten, and the theatrical trailer.  

Exclusive to the 2-disc Blu-ray Limited Edition are The TV Films of Martin KoolhovenSuzy Q starring van Houten and Michiel Huisman, and Dark Light (Duister Licht), starring Viviane de Muynck and Marc van Uchelen, and trailers for each. Bonus material includes new slipcase art by Peter Strain and double-sided sleeve with original bonus film posters.
