Heidi went from a sweet tale of Switzerland to a heroine for a drive-in experience with Mad Heidi. The movie transforms the beloved children’s icon into a serious buttkicker. She has had enough of a fascist ruler that controls the cheese market. This is Swissploitation at its finest (although it might be the only Swissploitation film). The movie comes out on July 21 in various ways including a Extra Cheese Edition that features trading cards – like movies in the ’80s gave us. Mad Heidi is the perfect movie for a Fondue night. This wicked odyssey of blood and cheese puts a new spin on the classic tale of “Heidi,” finding our heroine (Alice Lucy) all grown-up and living an idyllic life in the Swiss Alps with her beloved grandfather (David Schofield) far above an increasingly-dystopian landscape presided over by Our Very Swiss Leader (Casper Van Dien) – a ruthless dictator bent on world domination through dairy.
