Wait, what now?
Paranormal Activity 2, the quickly-produced, low-budget sequel to last Halloween’s surprise horror hit will be released in IMAX. Because nothing looks better when projected on an eight-story high screen than a low-resolution, shaky cam found footage film.
Here’s the official statement from IMAX:
“Paramount has delivered another great movie that we believe will really resonate with IMAX fans,” said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. “The growth of our digital theatre network has allowed us greater flexibility in programming, and we’re very pleased to bring this highly anticipated sequel to the ever-increasing IMAX audience.”
“We are thrilled to partner with Paramount Pictures for Paranormal Activity 2, a film that will be a terrifying treat for IMAX audiences,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “We look forward to sharing the next installment of this highly anticipated movie for a limited two-week run that includes the Halloween weekend.”
You know what? Why the hell not. What worked so well for Paranormal Activity was the film’s immersive theater experience. Seeing the film in a packed midnight screening was the best possible way to enjoy it. IMAX is the most immersive theater-going experience. Maybe this will be a match made in heaven. And hey, at least it’s not in 3D.
