Overnight FIFA announced the winners of the host countries of the next two World Cups.
2018 – Russia!
The London bid was the favourite but maybe, just maybe, another incident of crowd behaviour the day before the vote made some nervous.
2022 – Qatar!
The USA bid was the favoured one here, but I have no idea why it didn’t win. Australia, on the other rhand, sepnt $45million on its try, and received one vote. Maybe the fact we had 1000 people to one of our premier A-League games just days before the vote showed them just what Australia thinks of soccer, really… even those so-called passionate supporters.
Yes, there have been accusations of vote-rigging, of corruption, of everything else under the sun, but in the end Russia will do a fine effort and Qatar will spend insane amounts of money… and then transport the stadia afterwards to needy countries!
World is already that China will most likely get it in 2026, by the way.
