The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo may not be the last time David Fincher works with Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor. As reported by Badass Digest, Fincher recently announced at a screening of The Social Network that he has discussed with Reznor the idea of turning Fight Club into a musical.
The idea of a musical based on Fincher’s adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s novel is nothing new. Fincher joked about it a couple of years ago as a way to celebrate the film’s tenth anniversary. Whether a musical based on the film will ever come to pass is anybody’s guess. I could see the musical being a really great off-Broadway project — in the vein of David Cronenberg’s opera adaptation of The Fly or the Evil Dead musical. But would a hugely budgeted, Broadway version of Fight Club really be in keeping with the message of the book and movie?
