Alexander Gustafsson Says He Won’t Take Anymore Fights Before A Rematch With Jon Jones

Much to the UFC’s chagrin, Alexander Gustafsson says he won’t take any fights before he gets a rematch against Jon Jones.

Whether the usually-silent Swede is making the right decision depends on who you ask. On one hand, many can identify with the light heavyweight not wanting to lose another fight and jeopardizing having another shot at the title. On the other, Jones fought twice in 2013 and 2014 and with the Cormier bout planned for January, it could be another 4-6 months before Jones (should he retain his title) is ready to get back in the cage. Gustafsson has only fought once since he lost to Jones in their fantastic first fight.

BloodyElbow cites a report from UFC Tonight that quotes Gustafsson’s manager making the threat that his fighter will not accept anymore matches until a deal to fight Jones is signed.

“Let’s just say that Alexander Gustafsson is not happy right now. I spoke to his manager and told me he’ll be ready to fight by January 3rd. He’ll do whatever he can to not get passed by and won’t accept any other fights before his chance at the title.”
