Nickelodeon keeps up the fun with several compilation DVDs this fall making the carpool doldrums feel a little more fun. The latest releases include collections of their more popular shows and mix DVDs that give a taste of Nickelodeon without all the annoying ads. Josie is ready to tell you about her favorites of the latest releases, but first a rundown of what arrived.
Celebrate Fall! is in tune with the season. Paw Patrol includes “Pups Save the Corn Roast,” Fresh Beat Band jams with “Giant Pumpkin” and Team Umizoomi side into “The Ghost Family Costume Party.” Bubble Guppies touch on Thanksgiving fun with “Gobble Gobble Guppies.” There’s also episodes of Wallykazam! and Blaze and the Monster Machines. This is a fun set for the kids to watch as the leaves turn and fall off the trees.
Puppy Palooza! lets the channel go to the dogs. Naturally it all starts off with Paw Patrol as “Pups Save a Super Pup/Pups Save Ryder’s Robot.” They are all about preserving dogkind i their cool clothes and rescue vehicles. Bubble Guppies introduces us to “Bubble Puppy!” Dora the Explorer promises “Puppies Galore” and she delivers. Team Umizoomi hunts down “Buster the Lost Dog.” Blue’s Clues doubles the canine joy when “Magenta Comes Over.” Finally Mutt & Stuff marks the return of Sid and Marty Krofft. The makers of Land of the Lost find a huge dog for a new generation of kids.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Return to NYC! marks the heroes on a halfshell taking back Manhattan. After recovering in upstate, they’re ready to retake the scene from Shredder and the Foot Clan. Except there’s more than him holding power in the Big Apple. There’s seven episodes from this part of the season. TNMT get to fully play out their saga. Mutation of a Scene (27:26) break down how each episodes evolved from rough sketches to final CGI. This should make fans appreciate what it takes.
Dora and Friends: Doggie Day! is the older Dora and her more mature friends saving the day. Along with “Doggie Day!,” there’s “Magic Land!,” “Dora Saves Opera Land” and “Puppet Theater.” This is a much more sophisticated Dora. Instead of a Map, there’s an App on her wonderful smartphone.
The Adventures of SpongeBob SquarePants features all nine episodes that included MermaidMan and BarnacleBoy. The elderly crime fighters were a casting coup with Ernest Borgnine and Tim Conway reuniting after their service in McHale’s Navy. They even had Charles Nelson Reilly voicing the Dirty Bubble. This DVD should please both little kids who love the SpongeBob and ME-TV fanatics who are devoted to Match Game.
Paw Patrol Meet Everest! brings those service dogs in touch with a winter wonder. Everest is a girl husky who can hold her own. There’s also six other adventures including the Paw Patrol saving deer, turtles and frogs.
Blaze and the Monster Machines: High-Speed Adventures are four episodes load with monster trucks hanging out with kids. I like the fact that one truck is named Darlington. This is perfect for kids who like their four wheel pals talking away with kids able to ride inside them. The episodes included are “Bouncy Tires,” “Stuntmania,” “Epic Sail” and “Team Truck Challenge.”
