Burlesque Trailer Promises the Second Coming of Showgirls

News, Trailers

Over at Yahoo! Movies the trailer for Burlesque, Steve Antin’s tribute to Cabaret, has hit the internet and the results are kinda ugly. It’s something to be said when I would rather re-watch a musical about a pre-World War II Berlin nightclub than a movie with Kristen Bell.

Burlesque is the theatrical debut of Christina Aguilera, the pop star who has been working steadily over the last decade. Aguilera stars as a small-town girl who moves to Los Angeles and finds work in a neo-burlesque club. Cher returns to the big screen as Tess, a mentor to Aguilera’s character. Stanley Tucci, Cam Gigandet, Kristen Bell and Alan Cumming also co-star.

The film, with its gag-worthy dialogue, looks like it could very well be this generation’s Showgirls, a movie that only a gay man could love. There’s enough talent in front of the camera where this film could have the potential of being decent but if the trailer is any clue to the film’s quality, it’s going to be an uphill battle.

The movie hits theaters November 24, 2010 — just in time for audiences to avoid it as they stuff their faces with turkey and mashed potatoes.
