2010 Knockout Of The Year

Features

It is why many of us watch the fights. We hope to see that one final shot that signifies the end of the fight, sometimes before the unfortunate recipient even hits the canvas. Let’s take a look at the nominees for Knockout of the Year:

KO of the Year

Dmitry Pirog KO Daniel Jacobs
Jhonny Gonzalez KO Santos Marimon
Saul Alvarez KO Carlos Baldomir
Renan St Juste KO Sebastien Demers
Sergio Martinez KO Paul Williams

Pirog was unknown in the United States until he threw a speed bump on Daniel Jacobs’ quick road to the top. Jhonny Gonzalez put Marimon to sleep with a sweet left while Saul Alvarez put the iron-chinned Carlos Baldomir down face first. The third left from St Juste was the charm against Sebastien Demers. And none of us will soon forget the image of Paul Williams crashing to the mat as a result of a Sergio Martinez left hand.

And the winner is…

Sergio Martinez KO Paul Williams

A big knockout in a big fight is a sure way to win Knockout of the Year. Sergio vowed to stop Paul Williams after Williams was given the split decision nod in their first fight. There was little doubt this time around as Sergio flattened Williams in the second round to retain his middleweight title.
