Concept Art for Captain America Reveals First Look at Red Skull

Media, News

Comic Book Movie has posted concept art reported to be from the upcoming film Captain America: The First Avenger. The artwork, seen above, is said to be preliminary design work for the film’s villain, the Red Skull. Hugo Weaving (The Matrix) will play the Skull in this summer’s film.

The artwork certainly resembles leaked concept art of Captain America that appeared online last year. But honestly, didn’t most fans of the comic book kind of expect that this is what the Red Skull was going to look like? With his bright red, skull-like face, it’s kind of hard to mess up this character’s look. You’ll notice in the artwork that the Red Skull is holding up the Cosmic Cube, a powerful artifact from the Marvel Universe that has been confirmed to play some role in the film. Captain America: The First Avenger will be released in theaters July 22, 2011.
