Isla Fisher In Talks To Join Baz Lurhmann’s Great Gatsby

Casting News, News, Projects

Pretty much required reading in high school English, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel The Great Gatsby was originally published in 1925. In the eighty-plus years since its publication, it has been adapted six times into a feature film.

Baz Lurhmann‘s (Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet) adaptation would be the seventh but the first to be viewed three-dimensionally.

Already cast is Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby. Tobey Maguire is playing Nick Carraway, Gatsby’s best friend and the novel’s narrator. Carey Mulligan (An Education) will play Gatsby’s love, Daisy Buchanan, who is married to Tom Buchanan, a millionaire who lives in East Egg. Ben Affleck is currently in negotiations to play Buchanan.

Isla Fisher will play Myrtle, a married woman to a lowly mechanic who is having an affair with Buchanan.

What This Means: With acting heavyweight Leonardo DiCaprio at the forefront and a solid foundation in Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan, and possibly Ben Affleck, Fisher will be in good company. Why it was only six years ago when she had a breakout role in Wedding Crashers as the crazed sister to Rachel McAdams who fell madly in love with Vince Vaughn’s character. And she’s shown to be pretty versatile in low-key roles in The Lookout and I Heart Huckabees and even tested the waters as a leading lady in Confessions of a Shopaholic.
