MLB News: Alex Rodriguez (NY Yankees) To Miss 4-6 Weeks

News

According to SportsCenter, New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez will be missing anywhere from 4-6 weeks of action due to a minor meniscus tear. He first found out he had the tear on Friday, and an MRI today revealing the severity of the injury. He is scheduled to undergo surgery to correct the problem tomorrow.

This season, A-Rod has batted with a .295 average, and hit 52 RBI’s with 13 home runs. Eduardo Nunez is expected to play third base in A-Rod’s absence. Nunez has hit a .278 batting average, 14 RBI’s, and 3 home runs.

While this injury does indeed hurt the Yankees, the timing of the injury stands out more than anything, as it comes on the heels of Derek Jeter’s remarkable milestone of 3,000 hits. It looks to be a bittersweet weekend for Yankees fans, as well as the entire Yankees franchise.
