Diego Sanchez Out vs. Matt Hughes at UFC 135, Koscheck May Replace Him

News

The injuries are not done with the UFC for the summer shows. Diego “The Dream” Sanchez has been forced off the UFC 135 card after breaking a bone in his right hand.

Dana White tweeted the news on Monday evening, stating “Diego Sanchez broke his hand. Looking for a replacement for Hughes.” Diego Sanchez was scheduled to take on UFC Hall of Fame inductee Matt Hughes in the co-main event spot of UFC 135.

Josh Koscheck was quick offer himself as a replacement for the injured Diego Sanchez. “:) got a fight in 21 days bitches……..” was Koscheck’s first tweet on the subject. Once it dawned on him that the event was a mere 19 days away, he again tweeted, “Oh ya 19 days then or something like that!!!! Either way it looks like I am in to fight matt Hugh if he takes it????”.

This isn’t the first time Josh Koscheck has thrown his name in the hat as a possible opponent for Matt Hughes. Following his win at UFC 103 against Frank Trigg, he called out Hughes. “I know there’s a guy who just signed a new contract, and his name is Matt Hughes. I’ve been asking for that one for a long time, but I’ll fight anyone, anytime, anyplace.” Matt Hughes was at the point where he was considering retirement and was in the position where he could pick and choose his opponents. Josh Koscheck wasn’t a name that interested him and the potential bout wasn’t heard of again until tonight.

This time around, considering he’s less than a month away from his fight with no opponent, Hughes’ pool of names to choose from is very shallow. While the bout isn’t official yet, it seems like Josh Koscheck, Dana White and Joe Silva are all for the bout and it’s up to Matt Hughes to accept the fight.
