Vitor Belfort: “I’d pound (Chael Sonnen) out”

News

Vitor Belfort was originally scheduled to face former Strikeforce Middleweight champion Cung Le at UFC 139, but was forced off the card due to injuries (nothing new in UFC in 2011!). Belfort has already begun campaigning for his next opponent. Who does he want? Chael Sonnen.

Sonnen has been hyper-critical of the Brazilian contingent, including Anderson Silva, Wanderlei Silva, the Nogueira brothers and Belfort.

“I’d pound him out…Let’s hope he wins this fight (Sonnen meets Brian Stann next month at UFC 136) and the UFC puts him against me,” said Belfort, in an interview with Tatame.com. “That’s the fight everybody wants to see.”

The upcoming fight Sonnen- Brian Stann fight could serve as a title eliminator for Anderson Silva’s UFC Middleweight strap, but Belfort believes Silva would allow him the next crack at Sonnen.

“I hope I can fight him. Let’s get this trash talker…I think it’s the perfect timing, he’s a good opponent and it’s a fight that everybody wants to see,” Belfort said. “Even if Anderson wants that fight, I believe he would give me this fight as a gift. I really want to fight him. If he wants to fight Anderson, I’d be a great test for him.”
