Ben Affleck Adapting Stephen King’s The Stand For Warner Bros.

News, Projects

It was early in February when Warner Bros. and CBS Films issued a statement acknowledging that they were moving forward with a big screen treatment of Stephen King’s The Stand.

Ben Affleck, whose relationship with Warner Bros. is still growing (they released Affleck’s sophomore effort The Town and will release his next film Argo in 2012), has been chosen to both adapt and direct The Stand. Such a Herculean challenge to bring King’s mammoth 1,141 page book and deliver it in the form of a film. It’s just so big a story to tell, that it may require multiple films to tell it all.

What do you think? Is Ben Affleck the right man to take on such an epic work, and do you think a single movie will be enough to adhere to the novel’s themes?
