Spoilers for Action Comics #957
With the New 52 Superman dead and the pre-Flashpoint Superman set to re-assume the role, yet a new Clark Kent set to debut that will (1) challenge fans the classic dynamic of Superman and Clark Kent being the same person and (2) whose identity or secret won’t be revealed immediately, a brand new era for Superman begins with Action Comics #957.
CBR has some interior pages from DC Comics’ official DC Rebirth preview.
Yet Comic Vine also a preview that shows the pre-Flashpoint Superman becoming DC Rebirth’s Superman.
You’ll note that the shaving scene evokes writer-artist John Byrne’s iteration of the character where that kind of shaving was first seen in his classic mid-1980’s Man of Steel mini-series.
And, the final Action Comics #957 page above also evokes Superman becoming Superman and donning his costume at the end of John Byrne’s Man of Steel mini-series.
Good to see a recognizable Superman back!
Spoilers for Detective Comics #934
This week also features the debut of Detective Comic #934. Both it and Action Comics have returned to their classic numbering and in TEC (as Detective Comics is also lovingly known) a new mystery begins for Batman.
Who is this new murderous Batman hunting down Batman’s allies? First up, Azrael!
So, who is the evil Batman?
Could it be the DC Comics New 52’s first Owlman?
Or could it be the Earth 2 Owlman that debuted later in the DC New 52?
Or perhaps the New 52’s Wrath?
Although I am partial to the pre-New 52 take on Wrath.
Or is this “evil Batman” someone new?
So…
With all this, it looks like this Wednesday we’ll see 2 Clark Kents (with 2 Supermen if you count Lex Luthor’s Super S armor as a Superman costume) and 2 Batmen too via Action Comics and Detective Comics respectively. Not sure what to make of this, but I’ll sample the issues.
