  • Black Badge #1 – Matt Kindt and Tyler Jenkins worked really well together on The Grass Kings, so I’m happy to support Black Badges, their new series about a boy scout troop of trained assassins or something. I know it will be beautiful, and I’m getting a bit of a Mind MGMT vibe off it, which should be cool.
  • Spider-Man Annual #1 – Bryan Hill has been impressing me with Detective (also out this week), and I’ve really missed Miles Morales these last months since his series stopped publishing. It’s too bad that this is a flashback story, but I’ll take it.
  • I’m also looking forward this week to new issues of Sword Daughter, Death or Glory, Farmhand (the first issue was nuts!), Oblivion Song, Port of Earth, Daredevil, Darth Vader, Shadow Roads, and Relay.
  • Two great series are coming to a close this week: Eternal Empire and Maestros. I’ll be sad to see them go…

  • Catwoman #2 – The first issue got the series off to a great start, I predict some really cool things coming from this.
  • Eternal Empire #10 – Though it wasn’t my favorite Vaughn/Luna series, this was still enjoyable. Interesting story about mystical fates with a fantasy spin. (My favorite series was Alex + Ada, by the way)
  • Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps #50 – Sad to see this series ending, but it’s had a very good run. Makes me want to check out more older Corps stuff. I’m not sure if I’ll be picking up the next GL series with Morrison writing if it’s going to be focused solely on Hal, we’ll see how the reviews are.
  • Immortal Men #5 – Another “New Age” book on the chopping block, six will be the final. It was alright but not definitely not the best, hopefully it’ll have some semblance of wrapping up though; New Challengers was converted to a mini-series, also six issues.
  • Port of Earth #8 – Arc finale!
  • Also looking forward to:
  • Detective Comics #986
  • The Flash #52
  • Strangers in Paradise XXV #5
  • Superman #2
  • The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #35
  • Wonder Woman #52

Some really big returning series this week!

  • FANTASTIC FOUR #1 – It’s been far too long since we’ve had a FANTASTIC FOUR series! Dan Slott and Sara Pichelli are the perfect choices to bring back this series that should be one of the cornerstones of the Marvel Universe. This is definitely the first comic book I am reading this week!
  • SANDMAN UNIVERSE #1 – I am really curious about this new line of comics set in Neil Gaiman’s SANDMAN playground. This book kicks everything off. Gaiman did create the story, but there are a variety of writers and artists taking on reigns here. To be honest, other than SANDMAN I don’t really like a lot of Gaiman’s work, so I am excited to see what others can do playing in the wonderful worlds he created.
  • SUPERGIRL #21 – SUPERGIRL is getting (another) big overhaul. New costume, new mission (revenge on Rogol Zaar for destroying Krypton and Kandor), and a new creative team. I really want to like SUPERGIRL, but DC doesn’t always make that easy. I am going to give it another try with all these changes, but it may be time to step back and rethink SUPERGIRL entirely.
  • SPIDER-MAN ANNUAL #1 – With Miles Morales no longer having his own series, it is nice that they are giving us an annual at least. Huge fan of Miles, and I am hoping to see him in his own book again soon enough. For now, I guess we have to enjoy CHAMPIONS (issue 23 comes out this week) and Annuals like this for our alternative Spider-Man needs.
  • HOT LUNCH SPECIAL #1 – Bizarre name for a series. Aftershock’s new series is supposed to mix crime comic with family drama. I say this way too often, but Aftershock always puts out a lot of comics that I want to read, so I will give this one a look.
