A Moment's All I Ask - 5.7.09 (05.07.09)

Rock week was fun on The Lambert Show, er... I mean, American Idol. As I expected, Adam stole the show from the beginning with a sexually playful and charged version of "Whole Lotta Love"... »»

MGF Reviews The Smashing Pumpkins - If All Goes Wrong [DVD] (11.25.08)

The only way that Corgan was going to achieve what he wanted with these residencies was to keep in mind that for every two people who just wanted to hear the old hits, there were a few young (or old) fans who still cared, and play the hell out of the new songs for them and them only. ... »»

MGF Reviews The Answer - Never Too Late EP (11.11.08)

The Answer - Never Too Late EP The End Records (11/11/08) Hard rock The Answer might not have the best name in rock, and this latest EP might not have quite enough material on it to form a full-fledged opinion. But there must be a reason the band is being touted as the next big thing coming out of the UK. With deep roots in classic rock, some have been quick to label The Answer a “new Led Zeppelin,” a title that’s sort of lacking. If anything, The Answer sounds like a revamped Whitesnake, especially on the blistering “Highwater or Hell”. »»

The Partridge Family: The Complete Third Season - DVD Review (10.30.08)

Rueben Kincaid (Dave Madden) was the worst manager in rock history. He had a hot group in the early ‘70s with the Partridge Family. They had a hit TV show, plenty of Top 10 singles and performed a major concert each week. But the family were still living in their old house and driving around in a dilapidated school bus with mom at the wheel. At the same time in 1972, manager Peter Grant had Led Zeppelin soaring to stadiums on a private Starship jet between visits to their countless English mansions. Where was the Partridge family's payday? Reuben wasn't even embezzling the family's musical fortune judging from his normal car and dumpy apartment. The Partridge Family: The Complete Third Season reveals that the musical act would have done better if Allen Klein had represented them. »»

MGF Reviews Jethro Tull - Jack in the Green: Live in Germany [DVD] (06.19.08)

In their '70s heyday, Jethro Tull took acid-damaged hippie-folk-rock and scored an arena-size stage show with it that was sheerly Dadaist in execution. I heard tell of band members in gorilla suits and scuba gear, and other assorted zaniness that read like Alice Cooper on an Andy Kaufman bender. ... »»
