'Good Morning America' Closes In On 'Today'

The battle for television supremecy in the morning is getting tighter, as ABC’s “Good Morning America” finished closer to NBC’s “Today” show in popularity last week closer than it has since 1995.

“Today” averaged 5.64 million viewers last week, with ABC’s morning show came in at 5.60 million, according to figures released on Thursday by Nielsen Media Research.

The NBC show has topped the ratings for 492 consecutive weeks. The “Today” show is NBC’s most profitable program.

In an effort to turn around its ratings slide, NBC last month replaced the “Today” executive producer with a new two-person team.
