One of the more popular film ideas in the horror genre has resurfaced again. Ronny Yu, director of Freddy Vs. Jason, has stated that he would be interested in making a sequel to the film. The interesting part of the situation lies in the fact that Yu claims that incorporating Ash from the Evil Dead films is still very possible.

“Yeah, they’ve been talking about it, and they even talk about bringing Ash [from Sam Raimi’s “Evil Dead” movies] into the equation, and I thought it’s terrific. It’s almost like an updated version of “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.” If they really want to do it and they want me to do it, I’d love to do it. It would be a lot of fun,” says Yu.

Sam Raimi, creator of the Evil Dead films, had gone on record in the past saying that he was against the idea because he had plans to use the character himself in the future.

“I have great respect for those franchises. I didn’t want to be in a position where I was protecting Ash, the character that I want to eventually make another movie with one day, protecting him and not allowing the director to do what he felt he had to do. I didn’t want to be in a weird position like that….As fun as that sounded, I think they’re in two different worlds, the Evil Dead and Jason/Freddy. Maybe another time, that would be a better combination,” Raimi said.

Robert Englund, better known as Freddy Krueger, also weighed in on the situation, and is excited by the idea.

“That’s the one that I love, only because I’ve done film festivals and I’m a big fan of Bruce Campbell’s [star of the Evil Dead series]…And I love Bruce and I think he and Sam Raimi and that whole crew of people are so smart and talented. I think it might be fun, but they’d really sort of have to go to the wall with this one. Once you bring Bruce Campbell and the Ash character on you’d have to go over the top. It’s almost like this would have to be the last one. Ash would have to save the world from sequels,” Englund said.

It’s definitely a fun rumor for horror franchise fans, to say the least. But, it’s also been floating around since even before Freddy vs Jason originally took the screen, and may be as unlikely now as it was then. Also, the idea of incorporating Michael Myers from the Halloween films still comes up frequently on both the rumor front and fan’s wish lists, but it’d be even worse if you held your breath on that one.
