Dark Horses’ Mike Richardson recently gave an update on what else the company is currently developing and mentioned a possible restart for the Time Cop film series.
Richardson says he’s in talks with Universal about possibly relaunching the film series. The comics focused on a Time Enforcement Agent, part of a special police organization, who is sent back and forth into the future to prevent crimes from happening, as well as to take care of dangerous ‘time jumpers’.
“Timecop, we’re talking with Universal, we have some suggestions, we actually want to revive that franchise”, said Richardson.
The original Time Cop starred Jean Claude Van Damme back in 1995. That film is still Van Damme’s highest grossing film. Jason Scott Lee starred in the sequel, which was direct-to-video. No word yet on the involvement of Van Damme, though indications make it seem fairly unlikely.
Mind melting, logic breaking time travel films are always fun, but will the film, should it happen, see as much success without the inclusion of Van Damme? Has it been long enough that most people barely recall the original film at all? Time will tell. Uh….no pun intended.
