A Moment's All I Ask – 2.22.07

The girls brought “it” this past week on American Idol, and made me excited about the new season for the first time in weeks. Tonight, the cuts were made, and they were the right cuts. Hottie Antonella Barba was lucky, and completely skated through to next week because of her sex appeal. The girl can sing, but that was the wrong song and Simon was completely right about what he said about her performance. The person to beat is without a doubt the bring-down-the-house girl herself, Lakisha Jones. If anyone deserves to go by one name, like Beyoncé does, it’s Lakisha. She’s going to either win it all or be the one to be the Chris Daughtry—in regards to subsequent album sales—of this season. I also am a fan of the modest yet charming former backup singer, Melinda Dolittle. Another strong performer was Stephanie Edwards, who set the beginning of Wednesday’s show with “how to bring it.” I’m generally unimpressed with the guys so far this season, and hope that they learned a lesson from the girls to play to win.

Joss Stone has a new record coming out on March 20, 2007 called Introducing Joss Stone. I’m very excited about this record; Stone is one of the best young musical talents right now. I definitely plan to review this album and for now you can hear the stream of her new single, “Tell Me ‘Bout It” and other album samples on her official Web site. What I love most about Joss is her staying true and real to herself, and I believe this will be reflecting in her new album.

YouTube Video of the Week:

This is the amazing 1995 Grammys performance with Joss Stone and Melissa Etheridge paying tribute to Janis Joplin. Incredibly special since this was when Melissa Etherige was fighting breast cancer.
