SHOW THE MAINE-IAC THE MONEY

MMAweekly has obtained the fighter salary information from this past UFC 68. Care to know what the top ten pay out were? Of course you do…

  • Randy Couture: $250,000
  • Matt Hughes: $150,000
  • Tim Sylvia: $100,000
  • Rich Franklin: $42,000
  • Jon Fitch: $28,000
  • Renato “Babalu” Sobral: $21,000
  • Martin Kampmann: $20,000
  • Jason Lambert: $18,000
  • Jason MacDonald: $14,000
  • Chris Lytle: $10,000
  • Matt Hamill: $10,000

These amounts don’t include any added bonuses the UFC pays any of the fighters, as they only have to disclose the base salary each fighter is being paid for the fight. Here’s my question, how bad does it suck that the HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION is only third? I know Tim Sylvia may not be the most popular cat in the MMA world, but you would think being a champion would pay a little better than it did your challenger.

And I think Rich Franklin needs to get himself a better agent.

IT’S THE MONDAY NIGHT WARS ALL OVER AGAIN…KINDA

The IFL is debuting this Monday night with their new program on MyNetwork. It what may or may not be a coincidence, Spike TV is presenting a LOADED TWO HOUR edition of “UFC Unleashed”. The line up includes…

-Matt Hughes VS Georges St. Pierre (UFC 65)
-Chuck Liddell VS Renato Sobral (UFC 62)
-BJ Penn VS Din Thomas (UFC 32)
-BJ Penn VS Caol Uno (UFC 34)
-Matt Hughes VS Royce Gracie (UFC 60)
-Jens Pulver VS John Lewis (UFC 28)
-Andrei Arlovski VS Tim Sylvia (UFC 51)
-Melvin Guillard VS Gabe Ruediger (UFC 63)
-Luigi Fioravanti VS Dave Menne (UFN 7)

An “UFC Unleashed” like this more than makes up for them canceling “Inside the UFC.” I just feel bad for the poor bastard who has to recap this show. Oh wait, that’s me…

MICHAEL BISPING SAYS…

Michael “the Count” Bisping, the poster boy for the UFC in the UK, has been doing a bit of the blogging on UFC.com. There was one thing in the blog this week I found particularly interesting. Remember the flying knee he threw against Ross Pointon in TUF3? The same flying knee that took him right to the finals? The flying knee that made everyone say, “Holy shit, he actually through a flying knee?” Well, he talks aboot it…

One of the things the guys at the seminar were asking me about – and the thing UFC fans ask me the most about as well – was the flying knee that I used to win the TUF 3 semi final v Ross Pointon last year. It’s a move I am happy to talk about because it was a real
highlight reel move – one of my gym mates said it looked like something out of the Matrix movies!

One of the students asked me why I threw the left knee, thinking that because I stand with my left leg forward, I’d have gotten more power if I’d thrown the right knee.

I explained that I’m actually left-handed, and my power leg (and power hand) is my left. Don’t get me wrong, I hit plenty hard with both hands and feet, but I am a converted southpaw – just like legendary world boxing champion Joe Louis.

SOMETHING FUN…OR STUPID

During UFC 68 (though not during the main event, since she knew better) my friends girlfriend asked us what our “walk-in” music would be. As if it wasn’t sad enough that we all knew, I was even thinking aboot that very question that morning at the gym. Mine would be the Beastie Boys “An Open Letter to NYC,” though when I debuted at MSG I’d come out to bagpipes.

So just for ha ha’s, what’s your walk-in music? Don’t tell me you haven’t thought of it…
