Gilbert Aldana Dead at 29

News

Gilbert Aldana, a veteran of Rage in the Cage as well as Ultimate Fighting Championship, died on Sunday.

According to early reports on MMAWeekly.com, Arizona television station KTVK had reported that, “Aldana was just setting out on his boss’ boat for a family outing Sunday morning when his shirt reportedly flew out of the boat and into the water. He dove in to try and grab it and started struggling. Someone dove in to help, but Aldana never resurfaced.” At the time Aldana was presumed dead, with rescue units conducting a search and rescue mission, but it quickly turned into search and recovery.

Aldana’s trainer, Roland Sarria, confirmed the fighter’s death with Sherdog.com on Monday afternoon. He said that Gilbert’s body had been found, but had yet to be recovered.

Aldana leaves behind a wife and two sons. The 6’2″ 245lb. heavyweight’s MMA record will stand at 6-2-0.
