Ridley Scott and Universal Pictures are all set to tackle the legend of Sherwood Forest and bring their film Nottingham to life, but first Brian Helgeland (Man On Fire) is going to rewrite the script. Brian Grazer is producing the film.
Russell Crowe will star as the Sheriff of Nottingham in a film that’s a bit of a twist on the original “Robin Hood” story. This time around the Sheriff is more a straight-arrow noble lawman instead of the evil right-hand men of the corrupt King. And instead of the heroic Robin Hood, it will be a shady law-break for the Sheriff to go up against in Sherwood Forest.
The studio is hoping to begin production early next year looking for a release in 2009.
