UPW airing on ESPN Classic

UPW started airing on ESPN Classic on 1/7. The episodes will air from 1 to 2 AM EST.

However, this isn’t the beloved UPW that Bill Watts ran in the ’80s. Instead, it’s the much maligned incarnation of the fed that ran in the ’90s which was run by Herb Abrams. Mick Foley fans will note that he wrote about his time in the promotion in his first book. Hardcore fans might also note that it “won” multiple PWI awards for being awful, including Worst Promotion in 1991.

That said, a lot of big name talent was on the roster; the two episode that aired last night included Foley (as Cactus Jack), Nikita Koloff, Dr. Death Steve Williams, and Paul Orndorff, as well as Billy Jack Haynes and Ken Patera, for all of you full nelson aficionados left without a fix by Chris Masters’ release by WWE. Also, according to Wikipedia, they also had a Midget World Championship, employed Tyler (Sabretooth, Michael Myers) Mane, and during one title match, Abrams paid champion Steve Williams $100 to break some guy named Steve Ray’s nose because he thought he was sleeping with his wife. Also, Abrams and Bruno Sammartino are the commentators for awhile. So, you know, fans of Wrestlecrap should be amused, at least. Thet rest of you can adjust your viewing habits accordingly.
