5oz’s of Fury: Fedor, Rampage/Forest, Ultimate Fighter and More!

Columns, News

Thank God April is finally here because when there’s that much of a stretch between UFC Shows, I just can’t find anything to talk aboot. Either way, after a brief hiatus, your 5oz’s of Fury is back! Drink up.

Where’s Fedor? – M-1 Global officially announced that Fedor Emelianenko is no longer under contract with the organization. The funny thing is, apparently he never signed a contract in the first place. No word on where Fedor will turn of next. One story has Elite XC offering him a seven figure/four fight deal. Of course, Dana White would be more than willing to give him a load of money to fight for the UFC (probably more willing than he was the last time now that he has a second chance). So right now the ball is in Mr. Emeliananko court. Personally speaking, I’ll take Fedor vs. Frank Mir over Fedor vs. Kimbo Slice any day of the week. The one wild card is Randy Couture. If the UFC signs Fedor, can they put an end to their legal squabbling? Or at this point, does Randy just wait out the next three months and then jump to Elite XC or Mark Cuban’s promotion? Dollars to donuts says that if he chooses the later, he’s probably bring Fedor with him.

Ultimate Fight Night – The UFC returns to where it all began, Colorado (aka, the site of UFC 1) for Ultimate Fight Night…which ever one we’re up to. I have TWO upset picks for this show. I like Joe Lauzon over Kenny Florian (upset pick numero uno), Thiago Alves over Karo Parisyan (upset pick numero two), Matt Hammil over Tim Boetsch, Houston Alexander over James Irwin, Nate Diaz over Kurt Pellegrino, and if there’s time, Frankie Edgar over Grey Maynard. This of course all serves as a lead in to…

The Ultimate Fighter – Season seven of the Ultimate Fighter starts on Wednesday, featuring coaches Rampage Jackson and Forest Griffin and a whole lotta middleweight fighters. I say a whole lotta fighters because this year they are starting with thirty-two contestants and they have to fight their way into the Ultimate Fighter house. Essentially the first two episodes are one giant 32-man tournament. After we have our sixteen guys…that’s when the fun really starts.

Adrenaline – I mentioned that M-1 Global ended their working relationship with Fedor. Apparently they’re changing their name all together and will now be known as Adrenaline. They’re first two big names, you ask? Tim Sylvia (fresh from his UFC release) and former IFL standout Ben Rothwell, and one can only assume they’d be each others first opponents. After that…shrugs.

Brian Stann – Brian Stann is your new WEC Light Heavyweight champion. I mention this because, more importantly than that, he’s also a former Marine Lieutenant who was awarded for bravery under fire in Iraq. It’s nice to see one of the good guys come out on top!

And because you were patient, here’s Rachelle Leah…
