Cheick Kongo “In The Mix”

News

Dana White hasn’t promised Cheick Kongo an immediate shot at the winner of Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir, but I think that’s the scenario you’re going to ultimately see play out.

Outside of Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera, there are no other heavyweights who can easily step into a main event and hold down their end of the ticket. Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez simply aren’t ready, although Carwin is very likely only one win away form a title shot. Couture and Noguiera are facing each other in August, so they’re out of the immediate post-UFC 100 picture.

As much as I dislike Kongo’s attitude, even I can admit that he’s as deserving as anyone else in the division of a title shot. Plus, the image of Kongo and Lesnar (two giant, hulking beasts) going at it will likely draw a pretty good pay per view buyrate, despite Kongo’s lack of personality and marketability.
