Former Heavyweight Champion Greg Page Dead at 50

Greg Page, former heavyweight champion, passed away at the age of 50 due to complications from a brain injury. Page became heavyweight champion in 1984 when he knocked out Gerrie Coetzee in South Africa. He finished his career with a record of 58-17-1 with 48 KOs.

Greg Page’s final fight came on March 9th 2001. Page was knocked out in the final round and suffered severe brain injuries. Page fell into a coma and then suffered a stroke during surgery. Page was confined to a wheelchair and was paralyzed on the left side of his body.

In 2007, Greg Page won a $1.2 million settlement with the Kentucky Boxing Commission. New safety procedures were implemented due to the overall lack of medical personnel at ringside.
