Just as you should always leave a note, you should never smuggle drugs out of Turkey. That’s the mistake Billy Hayes (Brad Davis) makes in Midnight Express (the drugs, not the note), Alan Parker’s adaptation of Hayes’ and William Hoffer’s novel, which details the former’s horrific experiences in a Turkish prison, where he was sentenced to remain for 30 years. The film, which co-stars Irene Miracle, John Hurt, and Randy Quaid, was nominated for six Academy Awards (including Best Picture) with two wins (Oliver Stone’s Adapted Screenplay, Giorgio Moroder’s Score). Take the Midnight Express on July 24th.
