Portman adds more leverage to Aronofsky's Black Swan

Disc Announcements, News

Darren Aronofsky is a film maker who has never taken the easy road and his latest project Black Swan is no exception to that.

The Autuer has been trying to get Swan off the ground since 2007, before taking on The Wrestler. However there are now two elements that could help get this thriller green lit.

First off is the critical success of The Wrestler that has but Aronofsky on everyone’s radar. Secondly, Natalie Portman is attached to play the lead.

The script, written by John McLaughiln, has recieved a rewrite from Mark Heyman, a development exec at Aronofsky’s Protozoa Pictures.

Black Swan is the story of a veteran ballerina (Portman) who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it’s unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if the protagonist is simply having delusions.

Those who’ve read the script say it’s a spine-tingler with elements of The Others, starring Nicole Kidman, which left viewers to figure out for themselves what’s real and what’s imagined.

On top of Swan Aronofsky has been developing a Robocop reboot.
