Secret Of NIMH

Paramount is in talks with director Burger to do another adaption of the children’s book “Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.”

The book was written by Robert C. O’Brien’s in 1971. It is about a widowed field mouse, Mrs. Frisby, who must track down and convince a group of extremely intelligent, illusive, escaped lab rats to help save her children and home from bring destroyed by a farmer’s plow and the secrets she learns about her late husband along the way.

It was originally adapted into the 1982 MGM animated film The Secret of NIMH, directed by Don Bluth. It featured, amongst others, the voice of the late great Dom Deluise as the voice of a clumsy crow.

Paramount yet to indicate whether the new version will be live action, animated or some combination of the two.

Burger’s directing credits include The Illusionist and The Lucky Ones.

Frankly, I think the first NIHM is a fantastic animated film and there really is no reason for another. But we’ll see what Paramount and Burger can do with the material. If anything, it has the potential to be a much darker film, which could be kind of cool.
