News, Projects

Hollywood, the land of originality, is dried up of ideas. So Bob Weinstein is going back to the well to do what he does best: regurgitate old movie franchises to make a buck.

Under the Dimension Films banner, Weinstein is bringing back Scream (yes, Neve Campbell is on board) and a number of other horror properties, some of which will get the 3D treatment.

Scream 4 will start production in April or May as the first of a new trilogy, and the company is talking to Wes Craven to direct, Variety reports. In addition to Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette will return to the franchise.

Robert Rodriguez is writing Spy Kids 4, which he will direct in 3D. The movie will be made in partnership with Disney and will start shooting in March, Weinstein said.

Already announced, Halloween III will be shot in 3D and arrive in October 2010. (What, not a summer release? Finally a smart decision.) Dimension also is remaking the cult classic Children of the Corn.

Waiting in the wings, we can expect sequels to Hellraiser and Scanners (in 3D), and remakes to Short Circuit (Johnny 5 Alive…after a systems reboot) and An American Werewolf in London.

Alright, guys. What do you think? Have you had it with all these remakes? It’ll be interesting to see if they ditch Michael Myers for Halloween III and actually remake Season of a Witch. Rodriguez we are still waiting for Sin City 2. Come on already.
