Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief is a fantasy-adventure that’s based on series of books by Rick Riordan. In as director is Chris Columbus, of Harry Potter 1 & 2, Home Alone, and Adventures in Babysitting previoulsy. He also wrote The Goonies, Young Sherlock Holmes and Gremlins. Why am I mentioning all these? It’s for those who want to celebrate Columbus Day properly next year.

Among the stars we got Logan Lerman, of Gamer and 3:10 to Yuma previously, as well as Brandon T. Jackson (Tropic Thunder‘s Alpha Chino), 007 Pierce Brosnan and 006 Sean Bean, Steve Coogan, Rosario Dawson, Catherine Keener, Rome‘s Kevin McKidd, Joe Pantoliano, Uma Thurman, and Ray Winstone. That’s a loaded cast to be sure.

In Percy Jackson, Lerman plays the titular character, a champion free-diver, who learns he’s Poseidon’s son. (As if he didn’t have enough problems in school already; now he finds out his father’s a god. Jeesh.) Zeus, Poseidon’s bro, well his lightning bolt’s been stolen, and Percy’s the prime suspect. Caught between some angry gods, Percy and his friends embark on an adventure to find the real “lightning thief” and unravel a mystery that even the gods can’t solve.
