Several weeks ago, I caught this trailer in front of Amelia and you wouldn’t believe the response it was getting. Yes, the audience was mostly women so it played the “mother” card. Now Focus Features has debuted the trailer online.
Thomas Balmes’ documentary, Babies, is based on an original idea by Alain Chabat. From Japan and Mongolia to San Francisco and Naimbia, Balmes follows four babies from birth to their first steps.
The children are, respectively, in order of on-screen introduction: Poni, who lives with her family near Opuwo, Namibia; Bayar, who resides with his family in Mongolia, near Bayanchandmani; Mari, who lives with her family in Tokyo, Japan; and Hattie, who resides with her family in the United States, in San Francisco.
From the looks of the trailer we get plenty of Kodak moments so to speak of a subject that is universal to all of us.
Expect a sugar overload and plenty of “Awwwww” moments with this one. As to whether Balmes can craft a good story among all the footage shot, that will be the real test.
Babies will open in select U.S. cities beginning April 16, 2010.
